According to Emily Hertel's Booklet: "Robert and Dinah Hardy in Australia" - 1981
William Hardy was born in Sydney in 1831, and died at Glencoe, near Glen Innes, on the 13/10/1989, aged 67 years, and is interred there. The Glencoe Cemetery is small and neglected, and there is no visible headstone for William. On his death certificate his occupation was given as wheelwright. But, he was also referred to as a storekeeper, and innkeeper, and blacksmith, at different locations where he lived.
He was at Singleton in 1867 when his second son Robert died in infancy. He was a storekeeper at Tenterfield, a wheelwright at Scone.
On 21/7/1852 at the age of 21 years he married Mary Ann Glover, the only daughter of John Glover, Parramatta.
[Also]
From Council Rates Register, 1867: William Hardy was living in a house in Singleton belonging to John Views. The house was of wood with a shingle roof situated in Bathurst Street.
On 30/9/1878, William Hardy, Carpenter, sold land to James Nichols, Innkeeper, for £39/12/-, in Singleton, at the corner of Pitt and Bathurst Streets. It was probably a house block. No descendants of William Hardy have been found.
