[refer British War Office record WO12/7272 - Edward Mackay.jpg]

1. Definitely did not die in Ferozpore
2. Definitely did not die in Madras/Chennai
3. Definitely DID die on the boat sailing FROM Madras/Chennai back to United Kingdom.
__________

Research by Pete Lawton at Kew National Archives, from WO12/7272 -
Sgt Edward McKey died at sea on the way home to England.
Possibly died at sea:
- from wounds at Burma
- from Cholera (wife Ann probably died from Cholera in Madras
- from Dysentery

Mary Jane, Sarah & Elizabeth were sent home to the place of Edward's enlistment - which would probably be Aghabog, which is near Cootehill.

Cootehill is where the workhouse was that Elizabeth & Sarah were chosen as Irish Famine Orphans emigration to Australia.
[2015-07-15]

Question is - how did Mary Jane end up in Utah.

Parish of Currin, Monaghan - Recruited to the 63rd Regiment of Foot (name spelt McKEE)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am unaware of the source of the above statement. The British Army Muster Books for the 63rd Regiment of Foot always used the name EDWARD MACKEY #143.
